Hey gang,
I was contacted by a woman who is trying to raise funds for a family whose young father/husband was seriously injured in a motorcycle collision. Not only are the medical bills going through the roof, but the family is out "Dad's paycheck" while he's in hospital and probably for a long time in physical therapy. She has asked if the 501st CTG would be able to attend the event at a local restaurant if it was held on a Thursday evening.
I told her that a week night for any type of charity event is not a really good idea, as weekends always find people freer to attend... plus they want to do it after school is back in session and families are settled into their new routines.
If a Thursday is not doable I will try to get her to see that a weekend would be more effective, but I'm tossing this out for discussion so I can gauge possible interest or even the ability to do it on a week night.
I suggested to her to do it during a weekend afternoon so the characters can walk around outside and be seen by traffic going by...... night time indoors has little chance of pulling unsuspecting people inside...... unless they do a LOT of advertising for it.
Discuss .......
Hey hey Brenda,
Thank you for reaching out about this. Would you be able to send us the details / contact person's name, phone number and email and we can reach out to them to see if we can do anything for them? Please email lgradden@yahoo.com and copy nicholashscofield@gmail.com and Lou.secki@gmail.com.

Is food and drink included for troopers? 🙂 (non-alcoholic of course)
Hey Jimbo! So the event it outdoors but they'll have indoors areas for cooling off anytime needed and of course an area to change as well as water and anything we need!
-
Not sure yet! I reached out to them to find out if the event is indoors or out, I suspect it is out and to make sure we have adequate places to cool down if outside. I have not heard back. I'll follow up.

"Wishes on Wheels, Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization made up of passionate and hardworking volunteers committed to a shared goal - to organize a family-friendly truck convoy and event to bring together families, friends and community members to support children with life-threatening medical conditions. Dozens of local Wish Kids look forward to Wishes On Wheels as an annual tradition that simply can't be missed. Many of the truck drivers volunteer to have Wish Families ride along with them during the Convoy. When the Wish Kids arrive, they carefully select the truck they will ride shotgun in during the Convoy or search until they find "their truck" from the previous year. Upon return to Rentschler Field in East Hartford, there is more fun, food and festivities to help raise money for this important cause."
Hey All! We've been invited back to Wishes on Wheels Truck Convoy happening again on October 2nd at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. The CTG has done this event for many years. We would aim to get to Rentschler Field by 8:00-8:30 AM as it becomes harder to gain access to the event after that and be dressed up ready to interact with kids and families as they get back around 10-10:30 am. Crowds usually die down by 1:30/2:00pm. Parking is free and on-site for volunteers. There is an entrance to the field off of Silver lane across from Simmons road. Tell them you are a vendor and you will be guided in. Blasters are fine. The event coordinator let us know they should have a tent to change in in privacy in addition to a tent for shade and comfort. This is a great event and one you won't want to miss!

Comments: Over 200 attendees are expected to join us at this year's walk to benefit Apraxia Kids, the leading organization dedicated to supporting children with apraxia of speech and their families. Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a challenging and complicated speech disorder in children that makes it difficult or impossible to accurately produce sounds, syllables, and words. CAS can affect a child???s ability to speak and communicate for years and the only proven treatment is consistent, specialized speech therapy.
Apraxia Kids is the only organization dedicated to serving children with apraxia of speech and their families. By training speech language professionals and facilitating support groups across the country, we are improving the support systems for kids with apraxia so they have the best chance to develop speech and communication. We believe that every child deserves a voice.
The Walk for Apraxia is a celebration of the hard work our Apraxia Stars put in every day to find their voice. The Walk also provides an opportunity for local families to come together, to educate the community, and to raise awareness as well as funds to benefit Apraxia Kids programs. With your support, we will be able to help those with apraxia not only in our community, but across North America.??Registration starts at 10 am and the event starts at 11am , kids and families can get pictures with you all. Would love to try for a group photo with the entire CT Apraxia community with you all to share on social media.Hey All! Storytime details:
These events are part of the larger children's storytime rotation at YNH, and members who participate must be willing and able to read/tell a story to the kids. If your costume prevents you from doing this, we may be able to partner you with someone who can. The population of the children's ward varies greatly, so you will need to be flexible about accomodating different ages (toddler to preteen) and numbers (2 to maybe 10). Because of the intimate nature of these visits, we are curating attendees to ensure that they have some variety of characters and not too many "scary" characters. Please state your interest below, and Kris will both select who is going for this event and note anyone else who was interested for priority in future events. We are targeting monthly events, so everyone will get a turn.
Medical requirements: Covid + 1 booster minimum, flu shot for current season, and wear a mask while in the hospital

Comments: We’ve decided to add another Time Travelers Weekend for Saturday June 24th and Sunday June 25th. The spring Faire is held at the Harwinton fairgrounds, not far from Torrington. We will have the hostel this spring as we do in the fall, so food and drink are available for any 501st members free of charge. The hostel is set up in a very big steel building, there is a LOT of space inside so any bags, props, gear that needs to be parked but remain accessible will be easy to do. I'm guessing a table and some chairs will be needed, there are electrical outlets in the building if anything needs to be charged. 501st members can park at the rear of the site and come through the back gate for easier access. Let me know what you might need so we can make sure it's ready for you.Topic is for discussion of event.
