Comments: We are looking to host a Father's Day event at the Ansonia Pubic Library, and felt that you can't go wrong with Star Wars and Dads! We would love to make this a yearly event as Father's Day and our Summer Reading Kickoff occurs during the same weekend. It would be a fantastic way to "hook" hesitant readers, especially the 8-11 year old boy demographic which, as a children's librarian, is the toughest age range for me to get reading in the summer.
Referred by: The 501st did this event with us last year :)
Hey All! We did this event last year! This should be a fun, small event and I'd love to see us join them again. We've done library events in the past and they are always enjoyable. Aim for a 10am arrival time, 11am in costume start time.

  6. Happy New Years my friends!

Kris with the RL has been working on setting up a visit with Connecticut Children's Hospital in January and has extended an invite out to us for a few characters. They are looking at a January 16th date, which is a Monday, from 2pm - 3pm. There are more details to come but I wanted to put this event up go gauge interest, since this is on a Monday. I will update this post with information such as address, sign up limits, blasters yes or no, etc as the information comes in!

**Update on this: since there is a very limited amount of room at the CCH, space is limited so we are on hold right now for signing up. If space frees up, we'll update you and see how many of us can go.**

Amenities available at venue: We will provide food, drinks (water, soda, etc.) restrooms.  If there is something specific you need or want, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate.  We are working within the parameters of the hotel.

Comments: The Ty Louis Campbell Foundation (pediatric cancer non-profit) hosts an annual Gala and the theme changes each year.  Our 2023 Gala is "Star Wars Gala," so naturally, the 501st would be a perfect addition! Cocktail hour is from 7pm - 8pm, so the characters could walk around talking photos with guests. At 8pm, the doors open to the ballroom, and we would love to have a fight scene or some type of display of characters as the guests are walking in.  We are open to your feedback and recommendations!
Referred by:  Chris Feehan and his crew have attended our annual Mess Fest (August, Camp Kiwi, Carmel, NY) for years. I reached out to him and he recommended we touch base with the 501st CT Garrison branch.
    Per Erin:

So we would like at least 2 stormtroopers to accompany Kylo Ren at the opening of the fight scene. If it's a stormtrooper and a Deathtrooper or whatever, we can make that work.

The plan right now is that we won't be out during the cocktail hour. There will be cardboard cutout characters as a sort of tease, making guests think "that's it?" When the guests enter the ballroom, they'll be met with the fight scene, and then all of our characters come out to a big fanfare after that to hang around for pictures etc. There's dinner and an auction but then it's just dancing/mingling until midnight, so there will be plenty of time for pictures. I don't think "having too many people" will be a problem in any way.

They have also asked that handlers do something a little nicer than just jeans and a t-shirt/racing shirt. The dress code for the event is cocktail, but themed attire is acceptable. I plan on wearing a Star Wars dress from Her Universe and a pair of Star Wars leggings. Alana set a great example at the Florence Griswold Museum with a nice star-printed skirt and a Vader blazer.

We will have access to our changing room starting early in the day, and we will have food and water. We're welcome to stay as late as we'd like, but no one is obliged to stay any longer than they're comfortable, as always.

The intent of this event is to inspire interest and curiosity in space!

The entire Science Center will be open for this event with activities taking place throughout the exhibit galleries, in our planetarium lab, and on our rooftop gardens.

"Wishes on Wheels, Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization made up of passionate and hardworking volunteers committed to a shared goal - to organize a family-friendly truck convoy and event to bring together families, friends and community members to support children with life-threatening medical conditions. Dozens of local Wish Kids look forward to Wishes On Wheels as an annual tradition that simply can't be missed. Many of the truck drivers volunteer to have Wish Families ride along with them during the Convoy. When the Wish Kids arrive, they carefully select the truck they will ride shotgun in during the Convoy or search until they find "their truck" from the previous year. Upon return to Rentschler Field in East Hartford, there is more fun, food and festivities to help raise money for this important cause."

Hey All! We've been invited back to Wishes on Wheels Truck Convoy happening again on October 2nd at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. The CTG has done this event for many years.  We would aim to get to Rentschler Field by 8:00-8:30 AM as it becomes harder to gain access to the event after that and be dressed up ready to interact with kids and families as they get back around 10-10:30 am. Crowds usually die down by 1:30/2:00pm. Parking is free and on-site for volunteers. There is an entrance to the field off of Silver lane across from Simmons road. Tell them you are a vendor and you will be guided ??in.Blasters are fine. The event coordinator let us know they should have a tent to change in in privacy in addition to a tent for shade and comfort. This is a great event and one you won't want to miss!

Comments: Over 200 attendees are expected to join us at this year???s walk to benefit Apraxia Kids, the leading organization dedicated to supporting children with apraxia of speech and their families. ??Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a challenging and complicated speech disorder in children that makes it difficult or impossible to accurately produce sounds, syllables, and words. CAS can affect a child???s ability to speak and communicate for years and the only proven treatment is consistent, specialized speech therapy.
Apraxia Kids is the only organization dedicated to serving children with apraxia of speech and their families. By training speech language professionals and facilitating support groups across the country, we are improving the support systems for kids with apraxia so they have the best chance to develop speech and communication. We believe that every child deserves a voice.
The Walk for Apraxia is a celebration of the hard work our Apraxia Stars put in every day to find their voice. The Walk also provides an opportunity for local families to come together, to educate the community, and to raise awareness as well as funds to benefit Apraxia Kids programs. With your support, we will be able to help those with apraxia not only in our community, but across North America.
    ??
We were thinking that after everyone gets back from the walk part of the event, which I'm guessing at the moment, since we're still in the early planning process, should be around 11am, kids and families can get pictures with you all.?? Would love to try for a group photo with the entire CT Apraxia community with you all to share on social media.?? I will update you on the exact times after our next volunteer walk planning meeting.??

I don't know anything about Close boots or the CRL, but I am sure someone here can guide you appropriately! If you'd like to get advice on what may need upgrading, just add some photos here for us to see and we can go over them. Comments: ABOUT THE FAIRE
The 24th annual Connecticut Renaissance Faire is an enchanted recreation of a 16th-century harvest festival as one might have been in the days of yore.

    WHAT WE DO
The Connecticut Renaissance Faire offers FREE PARKING to guests with a kind donation requested by local nonprofits as a fundraiser. Paying for parking is done at the discretion of the visitor. While the weather is always a factor, these fundraisers are highly successful and positively impact the communities they serve. The nonprofit keeps 100% of its earnings from coordinating the parking lot and guiding cars to park.

    WHAT WE'RE ASKING
Some of our long-time patrons and friends are members of the 501st who attend the Faire annually as Storm Troopers and other Empire members. They pointed us in your direction. We request the presence of the 501st to assist the town of Lebanon's Project Graduation with parking cars on October 8, 9, and 10. These dates are our "Time Travelers" themed weekend, filling our streets with exciting characters. We hope your presence will boost the fundraiser, making it their most successful year.

WHAT YOU WOULD NEED TO HELP
The folks at Project Graduation would communicate with guests about the fundraiser and collect donations. Members of the 501st would guide cars into parking places to assist the fundraiser from 9 am to 3 pm. It would take around six people to run the parking lot smoothly.

    OTHER ACTIVITIES
We'd love to see at least 18-20 stormtroopers allowing each group to do a 2-hour parking shift, and then the rest of their time is spent inside the Faire. Inside the Faire, the stormtroopers can march in the parade at 1:15 pm and protect the king and queen by patrolling behind them or standing guard during jousts. We also know the stormtroopers are popular for photo ops on their own.

    HALLOWEEN PARTY
On Saturday, October 8, we are hosting an after-hours Halloween Party for adults 18+. Parking on this day runs a few hours later than usual (from 8 am to 5 pm). We invite all assisting members of the 501st to attend this Halloween Party that begins at 6:30 pm.

    MEDIA COVERAGE??
While we can't guarantee media coverage, we will submit a media release to local outlets to get coverage of the 501st assisting with the fundraiser. We are approximately 30 minutes from many prominent media outlets like Channel 3 News, NBC 30, the Hartford Courant, the Willimantic Chronicle, and more.??

    FINAL NOTES
We feel that stormtroopers would have the best look to handle parking, but know that any characters from the Empire would be well received. If you have a Darth Vader, Bounty Hunters, or other dark side characters, we welcome them, too. If you cannot get the numbers you need, even just a single interactive character where the nonprofit is collecting donations would make a difference.
Referred by: ??Several of your members are friends and attend annually.
