    https://www.terrificon.com/home.html
(warning: you might want to turn down your volume and put on sunglasses before clicking the link).???

This year we have been re-invited to take a table at Terrificon, one of the biggest comic book conventions in Connecticut. We'll have a chance to mingle with other costumers, promote the 501st, and have fun! We will also be doing another helmet raffle for charity this, thanks to Walt's Trooper Factory. I'm also looking in the feasibility of getting autographs and appearances with the Star Wars guests at the convention - Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian and honorary 501st member), Paul Gulacy (author of the comic series "Crimson Empire"), and Greg Hildebrandt (legendary Star Wars author/illustrator). Info below is copied from last year.

    --Signups--

As with all multi-day events, we'll be setting up in shifts.?? Please let me know which shift(s) you'd like to participate in when you RSVP for the event.

Entrance badges/wristbands will be held at the table.??I've been given a varying estimated numbers of how many we'll have, so assume that we might have to micromanage a bit. If you are arriving for a shift mid-way through the day and need a badge to get in, please text/call one of the command team phone # at the top of this page. We'll be expecting you. ;)

Please RSVP to the event if you're attending, and??POST BELOW on which shift(s) you'll be attending!

    • Shifts last 3-4 hours each.
    • You're expected to be??DRESSED AND READY??at the start time, so come early!
    • You're expected to??STAY AT THE TABLE??or move around the venue as discussed on the day.?? Do not leave the table to check out the convention during shift time!
    • At the end of your final shift for the convention, please return your entry badge to a wrangler or command team member.

Children are welcome??to come costumed but must be attended!?? Remember this event will get??very busy at times.?? The above rules for being on time and staying at the table apply!

    --RECRUITS--

If you'd like to attend as a wrangler and help keep our members safe, set up or break down our tables, and keep us company, it is always appreciated!?? This is a fantastic way to get involved with the garrison while still waiting on your costume build.?? Just post below or PM me to be added to the sign up list :)

We will need folks to help put up and break down our props and tables on Friday and Sunday.????

    --LOGISTICS--

Please arrive in good time in advance of your shift.

We have an area allocated to us by the front entrance of the convention, and a changing room close by that we will be sharing with the other costumed exhibitors. A map of the convention floor can be found here:

I suggest you change in the changing room and then bring your bin over to our area for safekeeping.

    --OTHER ITEMS--

    • We will be running a raffle of a Stormtrooper Commander helmet, kindly donated by @rottie??and assembled/painted by @First0rder. A truly beautiful job! Tickets will be $5 and all proceeds go to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center.

    • Additionally, I have been successful in??nominating??the comic book art Paul Gulacy (best known in Star Wars for as the artist for the series "Crimson Empire", probably my favourite SW comic) as a Honorary Member of the 501st. I have a plaque and some stuff to give him over the weekend - still working out exactly when he'll be free for the presentation. We need a group photo!

Staggered Star Wars Story Times with photo opportunities with characters and Star Wars crafts.?? Fans would be encouraged to donate new and gently used books both for Read To Grow and our Authors To Schools Program.

We'd just be posing in costume with the public and encouraging donations. Aim to arrive at around 10AM to be ready for 11AM. We're being promised a fair spread of food and drink I'm told. :P

We are a small community based museum that relies heavily on donations from the community. We have our largest fundraiser of the year coming up on September 1st. It is called Farm Day and is similar to a fall fair. We take over a dairy farm in Bolton and have games, rides, ice cream, hayrides, barn tours, arts and crafts, live animals, live music and food. We usually get between 5-6,000 attendees each year. Since this event is on a farm, we have access to a barn for a changing room.

All of our volunteers (including yours) would receive wristbands which will give them access to all of the free activities for the day including all you can eat ice cream, hay rides, barn tours and games.?? All volunteers also have access to the volunteer break station (which does have a small bathroom) where they can replenish with cold water, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and snacks.?? We do ask our volunteers to bring their own refillable bottle as we use an office cooler for water.

    https://lutzmuseum.org/special-events/farm-day/

We did this event last year! Same deal as then - arrive for 9AM to be ready for 10AM start. We'll go to 1PM or so and then dress down. The idea of all-you-can-eat ice cream sounds incredibly dangerous for my waistline...

    NO BLASTERS PLEASE.

    Parking:

Parking will be in the first field on your right coming up the hill- behind the wooden fence.?? Go to the closest admissions booth and I will either be there, or they can call for me and I will arrange golf carts to bring you and your gear to the changing area- We might have access to the house this year, which would make things so much easier!

  4. Hi Justin, welcome to the CTG. If you're really set on doing a bounty hunter, take a look at the Costume Reference Library section for them and see if there's something you like.

For other costumes that are reasonably simple/straightforward to make and are a good starting point for this hobby, I'd suggest either a TIE Pilot, an??ANH Stormtrooper, or a Jawa. Each have ample online resources to help you get started and can be customised to fit almost any individual build.

Hope to see you around sometime. :)

"Wishes on Wheels, Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization made up of passionate and hardworking volunteers committed to a shared goal - to organize a family-friendly truck convoy and event to bring together families, friends and community members to support children with life-threatening medical conditions. Dozens of local Wish Kids look forward to Wishes On Wheels as an annual tradition that simply can't be missed. Many of the truck drivers volunteer to have Wish Families ride along with them during the Convoy. When the Wish Kids arrive, they carefully select the truck they will ride shotgun in during the Convoy or search until they find "their truck" from the previous year. Upon return to Rentschler Field in East Hartford, there is more fun, food and festivities to help raise money for this important cause."

The CTG has done this event for many years. Usually @INDY??has been the point-person for the event, but this year I'm hoping we can work out alternative arrangements with the event host. We would aim to get to Rentschler Field by 9AM or so as the convoy drives off, and be dressed up ready to interact with kids and families as they get back. Crowds usually die down by 1:30/2:00pm. Parking is free and on-site for volunteers. Blasters are fine.

I will have water and refreshments??on the day, and changing??location is TBC. I'll rent a bloody van if I have to. ;)

    BE THERE BY 9AM

  6. The Bridgeport Sound Tigers are once again inviting us back for another Star Wars night on ice! Same deal as last year - park and arrive before 5PM, get changed and be ready to greet fans before puck drop!

    • Arrive in time for 5PM.
    • Go to the semi-circle in the front of the building and check-in with security to get a parking pass. Come back in via the front door afterwards and security will direct you to the changing area (whichever spot they have decided on).
    • Everyone will recieve a ticket at arrival if they'd like to stay and watch the game afterwards.

Significant snow is forecast, so please be careful when travelling to the venue. Thank you!

Supposed to rain Sunday will event be canceled?

I'm reading it as mostly cloudy with a??40% chance of rain during the day. Humidity might be a little tedious. I've not heard anything from our contact about a cancellation - if she does decide to call off the event, I'll let you know.

You guys do know that the weird al people probably won???t allow all the wranglers cus from what I understand is it???s not like we gonna be in the crowd. It???s like a 20 min set where he has us on stage with him for his show and then we are done. Just saying that might be too many people backstage

Yup - I'm actually still waiting for an email back from his tour manager specifying what kind of numbers are expected/acceptable for both troopers on-stage, and also handlers backstage. The instructions we received are cookie-cutter for all of his tour dates this year and give scope for varying sizes of venue; I suspect 3 or 4 handlers for our troopers would be acceptable, but until I get word I'm just going to be create a pool and work it out from there.

I wasn't around for his last appearance in CT but I suspect it's pretty much the same this time. Arrive -> eat pizza -> practice routine -> perform on stage -> dress-down + meet and greet afterwards.
