Children at Events

Recommended Posts

We recognize a unique opportunity for families to share in their passion for Star Wars through participation in Legion events with their children, and that participation may help to instill leadership and civic skills in our children and work to grow the Legion for future generations. However, the following standards need to be upheld to maintain the quality of the events and the comfort of the Garrison members who participate

These rules can change. Being listed here does not mean these rules are in their final form.?? Many of these rules are flexible and are at the discretion of the Unit Commanding Officer.?? How these rules are applied is not universal.?? i.e. what is acceptable for a Star Wars Reads day and what's acceptable for a Gala or Televised Appearance are very different. Please check with Command Team before volunteering to bring your kids, friends, or family to any event:

You can engage in active discussion at the Children Attending Events Discussion thread

??

1. - When Legion members' children are allowed to be present at events, their costume must be Legion quality and approved by the Garrison CO/XO.

2. - Inclusion of members' children at an event will be determined by the Event Coordinator in consultation with the Garrison CO/XO based on the needs of the event, or if requested by the event host. Command team decisions are final.

3. - Members' children must be supervised by the member or a non-participating friend/family member at all times. Please be conscious of how the member's character would interact with the child's character based on the level of supervision your individual child may require.

4. - Attending children and any accompanying friend/family member must purchase tickets or pay admission where required; in addition any gratis provided by the event hosts (e.g., food or beverages, goodie bags, etc) are reserved for members first and may only be provided to participating children with the permission of the Event Coordinator on site;

5. - Member's children must remain in costume and in character for the entire event unless approved by the event coordinator. (This will only be allowed in low profile events);

6. - Member's children may not detract from the illusion of reality while the Legion are "on stage", this includes the wearing of non-canon costumes;

7. - If for any reason the member's child is required to gear down during the event, it must be done back stage, and the member may be required to gear down with their child. Members should not expect other members to supervise their children for them in the event that they have to gear down;

8. - Members who have to gear down early because of their child may or may not get credit for trooping depending on the length of time in costume for that event AND this may also apply if the member is unable to actively participate in the event while otherwise preoccupied watching their child(ren);

9. - Members' children attending events is a privilege and can be revoked by the Garrison CO/XO. Members are accountable for their children's actions while attending events and are expected to exercise sound decision making when considering bringing their child to an event and while their child is attending events. While at an event Event Coordinators have the final say on whether behavior is appropriate or not. Violation of these guidelines can result in children's privileges being taken away and/or formal Legion actions.

Special Note Regarding Conventions:

Conventions are a public event - opened to all. CTG members may be provided comped tickets in order to work the CTG table and related events; additional tickets for friends and family (including children) must be purchased by the member if the number of attending troopers exceeds the number of comped tickets (if any) for the event. Given that trooping a convention and working our table is often a long, boring experience with a lot of non-activity please be sure that your child is capable of dealing with such a situation before volunteering them for attendance.?? If a CTG member is attending the convention using a comped ticket provided by the CTG, the member is expected to complete their required shift in accordance with 501st guidelines. If their shift is interrupted or stopped because of an attending child, the member will not get credit for the troop.?? Once the shift is completed, the member is welcome to enjoy the remainder of the con with their child(ren). In addition, Rule #4 regarding any gratis or comped items still applies.

Any questions regarding these rules should be brought to a member of the Command team.

Thank you!
