Maulevolent's Imperial Navy Trooper(s) Build

Recommended Posts

I sent these in for approval with our GML today but wanted to share the builds here.  I've been wanting to do a Navy Trooper for a while, something about the oversized Spaceball-esque helmet was just too appealing.  It became even more compelling with the dress uniform version seen in Rogue One which quickly became my favorite Star Wars movie when it was released.  So I decided to knock out both at the same time!

The Imperial Navy Trooper from ANH is the first submission, using the following CRL:  https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:IN_imperial_navy_trooper

The Imperial Navy Trooper: Dress Uniform version 4 from Rogue One uses this CRL:  https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:IN_imperial_navy_officer#Version Four

The beauty of a lot of Star Wars costumes is its like Lego, if you have a few common pieces you can leverage that to build even MORE costumes.  In this case, I used a lot of my prior Imperial Crew and Imperial Officer parts to round out these new kits with little added expense.

Both suits use a helmet from MonCal Creations, jack boots from Imperial Boots, belt from WampaWear, and gauntlets from eBay.

For the ANH version, I reused my flight suit (CosplaySky), belt boxes (PhiloProps), compad and code cylinders from my Crewman and TIE Reservist along with my boots, belt and gauntlets.  So the only new piece really ended up being the helmet.  I will eventually print and finish a DL-21 sidearm for the suit.

For the dress uniform version 4, I reused my staff officer tunic (CosplaySky), code cylinders (PhiloProps), rank bar (self made), along with the boots, belt, and gauntlets.  The pants are straight legged suit pants I already had for a version of the ISB.  I did need to add new belt boxes as the dimensions on the Rogue One pieces are smaller than the previous films, but I got new ones from PhiloProps that fit the bill. I also purchased his holster for the SE-14R.  The SE-14R I printed and finished myself.

I see the dress uniform becoming one of my preferred suits to wear depending on the troop, but these will also (hopefully) become my 8th and 9th Legion approved costumes!  I already have my 10th suit lined up; more details to come soon!
