@Chewy can you confirm if this event is happening??? 4 troopers signed up but event is stilled listed as pending.

It should be - I'm waiting on a response from the event host to confirm the timings. Considering we're also going to be at Mystic that evening, I figure 12pm - 2/2:30 is probably a good timeslot. When I get the email back we can move it to confirmed.

  2. The New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade is the??largest, single-day spectator event in the State of Connecticut, and one of our longest running troops. The weather forced us out of attending in 2019 but let's bounce back with a good showing in 2020! :)

This post is a save-the-date. Further details will be posted in the run up to the event.

My Comments: Another save-the-date. This is becoming a rather long-standarding troop for us! Usually we do this in two shifts of 2 hours or so with an hour lunch break in the middle. 2019 had an extremely high turnout and I'd love for us to match that in 2020. :)

We're looking to put in another application for the Middletown Pride Parade in 2020! This year was a great success both for us and the organisers. Obviously this is just a "save-the'date" but I'm already looking forward to getting to wave my flag again! Further logistical details will be posted closer to the date of the parade.

Application cost is $50 - if you'd like to contribute towards the cost, please paypal your donation to treasury@ctg501.com with a note stating what the funds are for. :)

Comments: Mystic Aquarium is launching a new holiday event, Northern Lights, opening December 7. It'll be a new special event where we'll be lighting our outdoor exhibits and highlighting our mission to protect our ocean planet, specifically our animal friends who live in the arctic under the Northern Lights. We'll also have a station where guests can write wishes on stars that we will send to men & women in the military serving overseas during the holidays. Each night, we will have a photo opportunity with characters, and we'd love to kick this event off with the 501st Legion. If this date is not available, any other Saturday in December or the first Saturday in January would also work!

  7. Thank you for your post, @Kaipurrr.This is something Sarah and I have spoken about this a few times of the course of the last year or so.

Here are the pros and cons for merging as I see them.

    Pros:

    • Greater available pool of resources, both human (as potential staff members and prop-makers) and physical resources (props, table displays, printed materials, etc). Having experienced hands around (that want to get involved) getting people trained and enthusiastic about supporting the Legion is important.??
    • Better social integration between groups. I know when I started with the CTG I wasn't really made aware that there existed a group in the rest of New England, and certainly wasn't encouraged to socialise outside of the Garrison. This is especially the case with regards to the Rebel Legion and the Mandalorian Mercenaries Costuming Club.
    • A wider range of interesting events for CTG members to be aware of and get involved in, especially in southern MA and in RI.??
    Cons:
    • Our branding (what we have of it), name, and organisation would change drastically. We'd obviously be using NEG branding, would have to change our name to reflect a downgrade in status, and we'd lose much of our autonomy to staff our own operations and produce merchandise.
    • Reverting to a squad means we lose 2 voting seats on the Legion Council. Right now the CTG is ridiculously over-represented for our relatively small size - Andy and I are full voting members, and Sarah (as a non-voting representative of the First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment) is also present. We effectively have more eyes on the discussions right now than most Garrisons many times our member-count.
    • We'd also be dealing with the associated politics and drama of another group that we're mostly unfamiliar with. I'm good enough friends with plenty of NEG people to suspect we'd be welcomed, but there's still some uncertainty there.
Speaking as our Commanding Officer, if there was a desire to integrate in the future, I would be open to exploring it. There are some aspects of our current operation that I feel are not sustainable and we would benefit from the additional resources integration would bring. Preserving our identity would be foremost on my mind, however.
    ??
I'd like to think that we live in a different time now than we did when Connecticut split many years ago.

So we got an event up here in the NEG over in West Springfield Mass. The Big E is asking for us to take part in their parade end of festivities event. Figured some of you might want to join seeing its fairly close

Thanks for mentioning this, Jason. I was only talking to Chris Arcouette about the parade a couple of days ago. I'm not sure I'll have the energy to march after doing the troop in Madison, but I'm glad we'll have some CTG representation there; I know it's been more than a couple of years since we've been able to make this happen.

  9. I'm looking to make reservations for a small get-together in the holiday season (besides our anticipated usual dinner after the Prospector troop), and I'm interested in suggestions for a place and food type. Somewhere Middletown-way perhaps? The town has a lot of nice places to eat and is roughly equidistant to most people in the state I think. @Backpacks Got Jets- you reckon somewhere like Eli Canon's would be able to do us in December?

Are we gonna do pass handoffs at the door if more people are there than 12? I got my own floor pass, but if someone wants to be my handler for the morning should they just buy one?

We (just) have enough wristbands for the 501st/MMCC members signed up tomorrow. If you'd like to bring an additional person into the convention, please ask them to purchase a ticket for the day.
