WIP Boba Fett: The Book of Boba Fett
Backpacks Got Jets replied to EColson6's topic in Costume Building
The bounty hunter's guild will be in charge of creating the CRL Just that fact alone would make me not super hopeful to see a CRL any time in the short term. If you're dying to do a Boba Fresh the Mando S2 is pretty slick. If you can wait (which may be literal years) then eventually a BoBF CRL will come out. -
Not sure how far along any CRL is for BOBF. But check the FB forums, I’m sure it’s a common topic by now. And thanks for understanding that we are not just harping on you. It’s best to get started in the right track rather then getting told later that you might be way off target. Research, ask questions, study references and most of all, don’t give up! You can do it. Just know that Boba Fett is notoriously a long build/approval process. Keep us involved, we are here to help. Best of luck my friend!

I’m going to my storage to take pics of all my kits so I have them for y'all if you’re still interested in them and I have current pics of all them. I hate to have to sell them but health reasons have caused my ability to be in kit to be restricted and I can’t do it anymore.

Thanks all for the feedback. Yes I'm going for the Book of Boba Fett look. I'm happy to take a pause and can come back to this once there is an official CRL for it. Does anyone know if that's in the works?

Maulevolent’s TLJ First Order TK Build
Maulevolent replied to Maulevolent's topic in Costume Building
More progress to close out the weekend. I’ve had a lot of battles with dust and insects ruining great top coats, so I went ahead and setup a paint structure outside of my workshop: and broke it in by finishing the top coats on the abdomen section. Very happy with the seam work and finish on this piece: I also finished trim and paint on the cod, posterior, knee plates: Next up 🆙 is the final armor pieces I need to trim which are the thighs and shins. Getting closer! -

Maulevolent’s TLJ First Order TK Build
Maulevolent replied to Maulevolent's topic in Costume Building
I’m finally past a point where I feel closer to the finish than the start. A lot of delays recently for various reasons, including refining the finishing and paint process for each piece, but I’m definitely building momentum! First, I finished filling and smoothing the seams on the abdominal plate and primed the entire piece for painting. This is the last of the significant modifications for approval/TLJ and glad to be done with slurry: I also assembled and primed the ABS spats. I will upgrade these to the urethane resin ones but the ABS were far enough along I could check them off: Next, I did the Behr gloss white top coat on the forearms and hand plates: And I also repainted the yoke after adding reinforcement to the shoulders and the metal tab for the shoulder bells: With all that, I’ve got the difficult aspects of the upper body build mostly done, minus the details and strapping, and ready to start moving to the lower… -
Hi Eric. As was stated above, the version of Boba Fett that it looks like you are leaning towards is from the Book Of Boba Fett. Which (I don’t believe) has an approved CRL yet. When you contacted me on Messenger, I didn’t realize that you were looking to get approved. I thought you were just making that version just for yourself. The most recent version that does currently have a CRL is the Mandalorian - Season 2 - Repainted (aka Boba Fresh or MS2). This costume is almost entirely different from the Book Of Boba Fett costume. Boba Fresh/MS2 is the version that I was approved as. If MS2 is the version you are meaning to create, then please reach out to me and I can help guide you to the correct articles of armor and accessories that you will need. Unfortunately, the current armor and accessories that you have acquired are based on the B.O.B.F. version wishing is currently not an approved 501st costume. - You can continue your build in this version, but you will not be able to apply for approval until (or if) a CRL is released. But again, if you meant to be perusing the build for the MS2 version (the same one that I wear), let me know. I can definitely help you get what you need to get this version approved. Just let me know. I’m glad to help and share my knowledge and experience. here is the link to the MS2 Fett CRL: https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:BH_Boba_MandoS2_Repaint Let us know if this is the version you meant to start on and we can help you get in the correct path.

Maulevolent’s TLJ First Order TK Build
Maulevolent replied to Maulevolent's topic in Costume Building
So I hit a bit of a stall due to other commitments and some painting issues, but starting to pick up progress again. I completed the assembly of the forearms with the accurate TLJ shape and 3D printed Picatinny rails. These are primed and ready for paint along with the hand plates: I also installed the metal shoulder support tabs on the yoke for the Level 3 requirement: And I completed the paint and finish on the more accurate 3D printed thermal detonator, again to Level 3 standards. I’ll line the interior with neoprene once the paint cures and before mounting to the backplate: Up next is finishing the seam fill on the abdominal section, primer, paint and assembly and then shifting focus to be lower body armor parts. More to come. -
So right off the bat, if you’re going for Boba Fresh and the S2 CRL, the helmet will not pass. It’s a RotJ style model with a Boba Fresh paint. There are subtle but significant differences in the helmet called out in the CRL that are judged for basic approval including the dent and the turn signals: The helmet, including its shape, proportions, details and greeblies, is not an OT-style Boba Fett helmet but is true to The Mandalorian series version. The dome features the iconic dent but is noticeably smaller than the ROTJ Hero dent, in the forward-left section of the helmet. There are 2 “turn signal” details above the band in the front of the helmet that are noticeably smaller and farther apart from each other than what is seen in the ROTJ Hero version. The left-facing turn is painted bright red, and the right-facing turn is dark blue. I haven’t looked deeper yet as the helmet is a pretty big starting point… P.S. Not to pile on, but the jet pack is also the wrong design for this version and the belt would not pass muster. Unfortunately, you’re going to need some significant changes to align with your goal. i would strongly encourage you to step back, carefully review the relevant CRL, and start working from that road map and keep us posted here on a regular basis as you continue.

Which CRL are you using so we can look at it. The only active Boba Fresh CRL is the Mando S2: https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:BH_Boba_MandoS2_Repaint If your end game is to get admission into the 501st you'd have to follow this one. @Swiftcloud could be a great resource on this build. -
Small update: Helmet is painted and 100% completed Torso buttons are all painted White shoulder straps are attached Detonator is constructed Belt is 99% done, just need to attach the holster All that is left to do is put together the straps that connect the bicep/forearm to the shoulders and the belt that'll hold up the thighs. Shooting for Wednesday at the latest to submit approval photos.

Put the first coat of paint for the trapezoids, frown, and vocoder along with the aerators. Letting it dry fully then I can outline and add the black lines. Only thing then will be to add the visor and mesh to the teeth.
