Alay Posted May 21, 2018 Share Posted May 21, 2018 My long long process of becoming a cheap Boba Fett knockoff.... I'm creating a Jodo Kast costume.?? For those unfamiliar, the character was created by West End Games to be a "mini-boss" for their RPG campaign Tatooine Manhunt.?? Since killing the actual Boba Fett would have canon issues, they added the character so RPG players could accidentally murder the boss without those issues.?? He became popular with nerds, and eventually got mentioned in Tales of the Bounty Hunter's Boba Fett story.???? ?? He was depicted again in Decipher for their Customizable Card Game He also made an appearance as a lazy alternate-color Boba Fett for Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi video game (my apologies to anyone that has had the displeasure of playing it) ?? Finally, Dark Horse Comics ended the character with their one-shot, Boba Fett: Twin Engines of Destruction. ?? I'll be doing my version from the comic, where he's an orange/green mandalorian that looks just about like Fett.?? My representation of choice is the style he appears in as he exits his ship in the start of the third act. When all else fails, this will usually be my frame of reference: ?? It should be noted, the comic was printed twice; once in paper in January 1997, and again as a digital e-comic by Marvel in 2015.?? The e-comic is horribly washed out: I will be using the original comic printing with it's orange coloring rather than the off-yellow of the E-Comic.?? However, referenced pictures in this thread will usually be crops from the E-Comic.?? I have the original printing on hand for reference. Extra fun; Jodo Kast actually changes panel to panel, in colors and appearance.?? This is artist errors or changes, and as such sometimes references from the comic contradict themselves.?? I will be using two universal assumptions when building this costume; The artist intended Boba Fett to look like his Return of the Jedi movie costume. The artist intended Jodo Kast to mimic Boba Fett's costume. As such, where details are too nebulous or not referenced, I will be defaulting to the ROTJ Boba Fett costume. There are cases where I will be using the movie costume and "overriding" the comic portrayal, either for aesthetic reasons or because of assumed artist error. my reference guide (WIP) Quote Blaster ??? Left gauntlet has a hose hookup on the left side.?? Nub to connect is on top left side: ?? Boots -- Jodo Kast wears spats No shoe darts, in same panel where Fett has darts.?? Omit? Boots have different texture??? Artist error or replicate? ?? Stun collar-- Worn on back of belt/near holster? ?? Holster -- Nemrod style, use leather? Something in it??? Pulce 40? has 3x ???rockets??? strapped individually ?? Item rundown thus far: Flightsuit -- On order from Clothears Armor -- Aluminum made by some loser Chest Diamond -- Stolen by??@Backpacks Got Jets Gauntlets -- Purchased from a fella on TDH.?? ROTJ gauntlets, fiberglass and converted to a soft resin.?? Will be replacing with aluminum ones as the process continues... Boots -- Imperial Boots debut run Jetpack -- Modified MoW jetpack Greeblies -- Machined aluminum/copper??from TDH Helmet -- GMH2 FP, a version I bought with aluminum ears and a hallow stalk already.?? Will be converted. Grenades and Rockets -- Shapeways print??from Toolguy, molding and casting in resin for prosperity. A bit picture sparse for now... I fully expect this build will take over a year to complete... I'm already 6 months into it+ ?? ?? ?? ?? Has a really nice paintjob that I'm unfortunately going to have to remove and redo, but may as well start with something quality.. ?? ?? I also picked up the armor colors today The metallic will be the base prime.?? Warm Caramel and Real Orange for Shoulders/gaunts, then Hunt Club Green and Sage Green for the other parts.?? I'm doing "comic-style" weathering, with the darker color being the damaged under color.?? We'll see how it looks... They have holes for tubing already but I saw a couple other folks use push-to-fit tubing couplers and loved the idea. I sanded/paint/sanded/paint them a lot.?? Still some print lines... they'll come out before the finished item. I then cut a bunch of couplrs and elbow couplers to size and glued them to the greeblies.?? I also made a little housing for the upper belt out of PVC Board. ?? Now where did I put that airbrush... Alay Posted July 12, 2018 Author Share Posted July 12, 2018 Smidge of progress in the last few weeks... Bought a Hyperfirm EE-3 ROTJ style.?? Probably won't use it in the end as Jodo Kast only uses it for the first act of the comic, and I'm modeling off the second, but I'll find a use for it. I started my paintup of the armor...?? Primed the pieces, did a silver aluminum undercoat, then a green weathering coat.?? I added Maskol by Humbrol thoroughly Then sprayed over with the lighter green Once dry I picked off the latex mask, and we got a cool comic-styled masking! ?? On the shoulder I tried out some airbrush to darken up the damage burns and mess with the color.?? The rest of the armor will get the same treatment. ?? Onto the belt... I bought a girth belt off Man-Of-War because his was the smallest I could find and... facts of life, I'm tiny. I also got a leather belt and pouches off Delta13 from TheDentedHelmet.?? I need to modify the pouches as they'll go on the girth belt, rather than the leather belt.?? Kast has his weird greeblies on his leather one. ?? In the gauntlet world, I managed to source the mysterious left gauntlet red LED I also asked my brother (who welds) to make me a nice flamethrower, and boy is it gorgeous ?? Currently repainting my gauntlets.?? Clothears tells me my flack jacket is completed!?? Weeeee ?? This weekend's project; JETPACK! Since the loops were too small for the girth belt, I went online and found these pretty dope clips: Some glue and a rivet later, they're on the back of all the pouches They slip over the girth belt evenly and give the desired look now Now I jusst need to secure to the leather belt the greeblies, and add in the tubing. ?? I also started on my mythosaur section for my shoulder @Backpacks Got Jets??may one day yet get me my stencils. ?? Firstly, I drilled holes at the expected place on the flamethrower.?? Metal shard cuts hurt ?? I installed the two plunger buttons into the top Next for the nozzles.?? I got these coaxial cable couples and unscrewed them, then turned them inside out I cut some PVC board up to make a little stand so they have the right offset Glued em on Then painted the whole thing black and sanded the knurling ?? Kinda dope right? ?? I painted the rest of the gauntlet with as close to an approximation of the TED gauntlet as I could, using reference pictures Flamethrower installed Main rocket screwed into place.?? Added the painted dental expander and keyboard replica, as on ROTJ Fett.?? They're ambiguously present on the TEOD Jodo Kast so I opted to keep them. Painted side rocket installation I bought this cool little PCB with a fading LED, then just linked it up to the single LED.???? Electronics all hide in the flamethrower.?? Wiring will be hidden by padding ?? Also on the right gauntlet the darts have been installed... golly that was a PAIN! ?? Lastly, I bought this leather Nemrod style holster from DELTA leather.??
