Weird Al Yankovic is back in town this year for his "No Strings Attached" tour! Wooooo! We've been asked to get on stage with him during his usual Star Wars numbers.
Pictures from 2015:??https://www.facebook.com/pg/ConnecticutGarrison/photos/?tab=album&album_id=911489588907579
A quick rundown for those who aren't familiar with how this works:
Performance
The songs "The Saga Begins" and "Yoda" are performed back-to-back at the end of the show. Our appearance on stage takes place during the performance of the song "We all have Cell Phones", which leads into "The Saga Begins". We will promptly exit stage at the end of "The Saga Begins" and before "Yoda".
When everyone has arrived before the show, the stage manager will run through the (very simple) routine with us. We will have a separate room and accompanying soundtrack to practice with beforehand. HERE is a good example of the kind of stuff we'll be asked to do.
Food & Meet and Greet
A pizza dinner will be provided for us before the performance (not sure it's a great idea to load everyone up with pizza before dancing but okay :P) and there will be a VIP meet-and-greet opportunity with Al after the show. It's typically 15-20 minutes after the end of the show and lasts 30-45 minutes. We can do pictures and get stuff signed and the like then.
Personnel:
We've been asked to provide 1 Vader and 4-8 "traditional" Stormtroopers (i.e. ANH Stunt or Hero, ESB, or ROTJ), with the possibility of 2 additional helmeted or masked characters (if there's room) like Boba Fett, Tusken Raiders, etc. We also have the option, if?? necessary, to replace Stormtroopers with Biker Scouts, Sandtroopers, Snowtroopers, Clone Troopers, or Imperial Guardsmen.??
We are also allowed to bring an (unspecified) number of handlers along too. I'll consider??what is a reasonable number depending on the numbers of costumed troopers and general interest. A single trooper-spot is allotted for us to video-tape the performance.
We're also allowed to bring 1 R2-D2 along. @trevelyan! I will be getting in touch with you separately.
Schedule:
Please plan to arrive between 2 1/2 hours and 3 hours prior to show time (i.e. around 5PM) and park in the garage closest to the casino.
Parking costs will be covered by them.Duh. Parking is free at Foxwoods.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are interested in performing, please specify in the calendar event that you are coming and reply in the Events thread which costume you will be wearing. Please be aware that this is pretty much a "casted" event and we have to give them the setup that they want.
- I will give preference to CTG Vaders and Stormtroopers first, and any other costumes second.
- If we cannot fill our contingent of Stormtroopers I will open up slots to other "trooper" characters.
- Handlers will be decided when our Vader/Stormtrooper slots are filled.
- To ensure fairness, those who have not done Weird Al before will get first dibs.
- I will also give preference to those troopers who actively support the Garrison on a regular basis. You come out and troop regularly, you are rewarded.
This is going to be sweet!!

Big thank you to those who came to Hartford today! Hospital troops are tricky to organise but they mean the world to the staff and patients we visit. Now... onwards to May 4th!
EDIT: Andy Tanski took a bunch of photos today, they're in an album here:??
The hospital photographer and staff also took a bunch, which they will be forwarding to me at some point in the near future (hopefully).

Of course not. Glad to have you, Jim.

UPDATE: We're good to park outside the family resource center again now. It's along Washington Street on the right, just before the entrance to the main hospital complex. By the blue crane in this google maps image:??https://www.google.com/maps/place/282+Washington+St,+Hartford,+CT+06106/@41.7537463,-72.6839608,127a,35y,91.09h,45t/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x89e65314c8266ead:0x6b80c0b8377872c1!8m2!3d41.7537542!4d-72.6818204??

I'm all for this. I might have to finagle my work schedule a bit but I'm sure I can make it work.
-
Thank you to Sarah, Joan, and Brian who've also agreed to help out with this. I know we don't usually do private events but I think we can make an exception in this case. The nice charity check should make it worthwhile.
-
We've still got one space left for this! If you've got some spare time around the middle of the day, come help us cheer up some poor children.

??Bon apr??s-midi, tout le monde.
We're less than a week away from May 4th and I'm pretty happy with the three events we're angling to do for the holiday. Our annual trip to CCMC is always very rewarding and an excellent opportunity to go cheer up some people very much in need. The troop at the New Britain Bees should be short and sweet - we'll be there in (hopefully) balmy weather to have fun as the spectators arrive. Finally, we'll also be doing a fundraising troop at a wedding for a lady who's been struggling for years with cancer and accepting a nice check for a very worthy cause.
Looking further to the future we'll be gearing up planning for Terrificon in August and for "Rise of Skywalker" at the Prospector in December. Between them I'm also looking to??use the Apple Harvest Parade in Southington on October 6th as a "make-up" for missing St Paddy's Day. Although unfortunately Comiconn will not be happening this year, we have been offered by the Lil' Rhody Squad??the opportunity to be more involved with planning of Rhode Island Comic Con in November. I hope this will be a good??way to show our ongoing support for Erik Yacko and his interests.
On a somewhat related note, I notice that Catherine Munroe (the actress who played the bounty hunter Zuckuss in "Empire Strikes Back") will be at RICC. Guess who is going to have to finish his bug-eyed costume by then...??
Also in the pipeline we have a trading card design currently going through Legion approval, as well as consideration for a restock of vinyl stickers, a new patch design, and plans for more branded stuff to come. I'm aware merchendise was a major point of contention brought up during the elections, and I really want to knock that out of the park this year. I'm very glad that @Swiftcloud??has agreed to come on board and lend us a hand. Quickly I'd also like to thank @Madxena??for stepping up to help with Event Coordination. More hands on deck will be expecially helpful as we push through the summer into the fall and get closer to the movie release.
??Until next time, troopers.

@Chewy??I know exactly where that is (I've, unfortunately, had to go there with kids a multitude of times).?? Is 1:00 the time to arrive, or should we get there earlier to suit up?
??
1pm is the time we start, so aim to arrive just after midday. I'm just going to double - check with the event host that their morning event finishes soon enough that we'll have enough parking if we arrive then.??

I'm good starting at 1.?? I work in Hartford so it's just a short drive down the street from me.?? When/where do we muster?
We will be meeting up at the Family Resource Center at the Hospital. It's across the street from the public parking garage, or just inside the doors from the parking if we start at 1. I can make up a little map before the event.

I would like to join you guys if there is still room. I should have my new Twi'lek Jedi ready to go and I could help with soft wrangling for armored troopers.
Sure! That takes us to the cap of 7, but if another CTG member would like to attend we'll have to put you on the reserve list unfortunately.????

Welcome Greg.
We're doing a get-together at the Portal in Manchester tomorrow - if you're free and nearby, hit us up! We'll be happy to answer any questions you might have.

@Jimbo??@Feliz??@bsands??@First0rder
There's going to be an event outside the hospital until 1PM that's going to mess up parking - are you guys okay started later at 1PM and finishing at around 3? It means Chuck could come with R2, and we wouldn't have to drag our totes all the way from the public parking garage.

Phew. I'm still exhausted from yesterday.
I gather the museum was a little disappointed with their??turnout this year (mostly because it was beautiful weather outside), but I can't fault you guys for what we managed to put together. I really loved seeing all our different Garrisons and clubs come together and have a really fun day. Thank you!??

Hey, please shoot me a text on 860 986 0338 if you plan on arriving past 10, or need help getting to the museum. Thank you!
-
Quick note - if anyone is planning on arriving later than 10AM, then please let me know tomorrow so I can let the event host know. I've already got you down, @jimsprenkle!??They plan to close the side gate to the museum at opening time and they'll have to send someone out to open it for late arrivals.

Hello friends! Been a busy week.
- I'm very much looking forward to Space EXPO??this weekend, and the small social we're doing at Bobby V's afterwards. It makes me very happy to see a mixture of CTG, NEG, Kamino Base, Alderaan Base, and our friends from the New England Droid Builders attending. We're definitely stronger when we all work together.
- ??We have a couple of merch-related announcements to make in the next week or so, just in time for May 4th.
- The Amendment I mentioned previously (giving Detachment Leaders the right to participate in discussions within Legion Closed Council) passed a Council vote and is now in a poll of general membership -??https://www.501st.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=131&t=102828. Please head over there and exercise your democratic right to vote.

Moved to confirmed events. We should be??set for parking and a changing area but we'll double-check closer to the date for exact details. I'm actually quite looking forward to this.

Update:
Currently getting LFL approval for the backdrop images. They unfortunately don't have the very hi-rez image of Mos Eisley on file, but are looking for a replacement that is similar. I've also requested use of the Falcon in the docking bay and a suitably deserty shot of Jakka as alternatives.

Sure, let's do it!
@Jimbo??and @Feliz??- go here:??https://www.501st.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=67849&hilit=backdrop#p792273??and take a look at the backdrop images in that thread. Let's come to an agreement on which one fits the best and then I can do the approval and printing legwork. The Mos Eisley one looks pretty sweet. You guys want to split the $185 cost three ways?
